Home Remedies for Sore Throat

Sore throat is always uuhhhh, the most irritating problem for me.
The sore throat burns, irritate and make it hard to talk. It is mostly one of the initial signs of cold. If you have a sore throat then there is high chance that you will also catch a cold.
Common sore throat causes include bacterial infection, cold, flu, allergies, chicken pox,  smoking etc. The main symptoms of sore throat are pain, dry throat, difficulty in breathing and talking,  patches on the tonsils and swollen tonsils.
Below are some simple remedies that will help you to get relief from sore throat naturally.

1. Salt water gargles

The most common remedy my father always used to advice is salt water gargles. It is not a grandma’s old tale but it is really effective to soothe a sore throat, reduce swelling and pain. It also helps in killing bacteria.
Take 1 tsp of salt in 1 cup of warm water and mix well. Gargle with this water 5 to 6 times a day.

2, Honey

Honey, having antibacterial properties, is an effective and old cough remedy. It speeds up the healing process of a sore throat.
Honey can be used in many ways.
  1. Mix honey in 1 cup of warm water and drink twice a day or use it in your herbal tea.
  2. Sprinkle some black pepper on one tbsp. honey and eat.
  3. Gargle with honey mixed in 1 cup of warm water.

3. Turmeric water gargles

Many serious diseases can be cured by a simple herb: turmeric. Turmeric helps to prevent infection and wash out bacteria by making a layer on your throat.
Take one cup of hot water; add half teaspoon salt and half tea spoon turmeric in it. Gargle with this mixture at least twice a day.

4. Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is very useful and kills bacteria efficiently because it is hard for bacteria to survive in the acidic environment created by vinegar in the throat. You just need to mix 1 tbsp apple cider in 1 cup of warm water and drink. You can add honey to improve taste of this drink and it can also soothe the soreness of throat.

5. Cinnamon

My mother often adds cinnamon in routine tea, to clean out throat and it really works. Although we should avoid spice when you have sore throat, but cinnamon is the spice which is recommended for sore throat. You can get benefit from it by boiling it in one cup of water or adding it in the tea of your choice.

6. Turmeric Milk

Turmeric milk is also known as Golden milk. As I stated above, turmeric can cure many small and serious diseases. Cold, flu sore throat etc. are few of them.
Add ½ tsp turmeric and one cardamom in 1 cup milk. Leave it on medium heat to boil. At the end, add honey according to taste. Drink it warm to get good results.

7. Garlic

Garlic has powerful antioxidant and antibiotic properties. It is very useful and effective to kick off the germs causing irritation and pain in the throat. You can eat fresh garlic, add it to your tea, gargle with garlic water, or place a piece of garlic in your mouth to suck on garlic drops.

8. Drink Warm fluids

Most of the grandma’s sore throat remedies have one thing in common: all are either hot or warm. Tea, soup, warm water etc. prevent your throat from drying and protect it by coating the throat.
